CEREC

How CEREC Works

We use a highly-sensitive precision wand to digitally scan the section of your mouth where a dental restoration will be placed. As the wand scans the area, it builds a virtual model of your mouth on a screen right in front of your eyes. You and your doctor can fine-tune the area until the virtual model represents your mouth exactly.

Once the digital model of the dental restoration area have been finished, Implant and Family Dentistry will digitally design a restoration right there on the screen. It will be designed to be fully functional and fit exactly in the area where it needs to be place.

From there, this digital restoration will be sent to a milling machine where a color-matched block of porcelain will be precisely milled into the final restoration. This restoration is NOT a temporary, but rather the same restoration we expect to receive from a dental lab.

The final restoration is test-fitted to the area and any final adjustments are made before securely bonding the restoration to the tooth. You will walk out of our office wearing the final restoration in a single dental visit.

Single appointment dentistry is not too good to be true! Call us at 901-377-3988 or request an appointment to see what CEREC can do for your specific situation.

CEREC to the Rescue to Provide Same-Day Dentistry

Our patients benefit from single-visit restorations including crowns, inlays & onlays, white fillings and veneers using a very high-tech piece of dental equipment called CEREC.

CEREC stands for CEramic REConstruction and represents a process where we digitally scan the area of your mouth where the dental restoration will be placed, designing a replacement restoration right there, and finally milling the final restoration during the same appointment.

Our patients don't have to walk around with bulky and uncomfortable temporary crowns and won't have to come back for a second appointment for the final fitment and placement of the dental restoration. If you are in need of a dental restoration, chances are CEREC can provide it in just one visit. We invite you to call our dental office at 901-377-3988 or request an appointment online and let us answer that question right then and there!

Single Visit Restorations Via CEREC

Crowns

CEREC crowns are the preferred dental restoration for damaged teeth or after a root canal or dental implant placement. CEREC crowns are color matched to blend in perfectly with surrounding teeth.

Inlays & Onlays

For when a filling might ruin tooth structure integrity but a crown is unnecessary a CEREC inlay or onlay is the perfect dental restoration to restore a tooths functionality yet keep a natural appearance.

White Fillings

High-strength fillings are color matched to the tooth the dental restoration is being placed in. CEREC retain a natural biting surface that is otherwise lost in some typical filling methods.

Veneers

CEREC veneers are created to perfectly fit over a prepared tooth that was originally damaged or discolored. The final product is a fully functional, color-matched dental restoration ready for use.

CEREC Omnicam

CEREC Omnicam is optimized for powder-free scanning of natural tooth structures and gingiva. Simply place the camera over the relevant area and the scan starts automatically. The elimination of a powder coating means that the scanning process is faster and easier. Full-arch and half-arch scans can now be performed more conveniently and quickly than ever before.

It is impressive to see the 3D model displayed in full color on the monitor. The various surfaces are shown in their natural shades. This direct and realistic feedback helps to distinguish between amalgam, gold or composite fillings and other subtle problems in the mouth.

Placing a Porcelain Crown In 1 Visit

Because our office can provide a dental crown in a single dental appointment, we do things a little different than other dental offices. We can skip the temporary molds and the time it takes to have a dental lab fabricate your final crown.

1. We start the crown procedure by reducing the overall size of the tooth that's in need of a dental crown. Shaving off existing tooth structure allows for the new crown to fit properly and it also creates a foundation for the new crown to be bonded to.

2. Next, using our state-of-the-art CEramic REConstruction (CEREC) system, we will digitally scan the section of your mouth that has been prepared for the crown. This is done by using a special wand that can be easily positioned in your mouth to ensure an extremely accurate digital representation of the restoration area.

3. We will now be able to see a high-resolution 3D representation of the area and start to design a new crown that will fit perfectly over the prepared tooth. Our patients often love getting to see us create a new tooth for them in real time, right there on the screen.

4. Once the digital representation of the new crown has been created on the computer, we will send it off to our in-house milling machine. We place a block of porcelain that has been color-matched to the shade of your existing tooth into the milling machine and run the program. This amazing machine robotically fabricates a perfect crown restoration that is ready to be placed over the prepared tooth at this time. This crown is the final crown and NOT a temporary crown which means you have just received a new dental crown in a single dental appointment.

CEREC Fillings

The most simple filling you will ever receive! With the help of CEREC, you can get a filling in just one quick visit. This is good not only for new fillings but can also be used to replace old unsightly metal fillings. CEREC is chosen by many dentists to help restore teeth back to their natural beauty and shine. Instead of the traditional fillings, which use resin or composite materials, the CEREC machine uses porcelain. Porcelain has a higher success rate and lasts much longer than the traditional non-CEREC fillings. The first step is examining you tooth structure that is to be restored. The treatment area is prepped and a digital impression is taken of the restoration area. Instead of those messy uncomfortable molds, our office simply scans the area with a wand that captures the teeth in which your fillings are to be placed. Next, we use the CEREC machine that helps us to create a 3D model of your restoration. After the design phase is complete, this information is sent to the milling machine where it mills your prefabricated porcelain filling. Once complete, the filling is ready to be placed and polished during your same visit. This process is quick, simple and creates the same feel and functionality of your natural teeth with pleasing aesthetics as well as long lasting results.

We Offer Same-Day Inlays & Onlays

Our office is unique and we are happy to provide our patients with single-visit inlays and onlays because of our amazing CEREC machine. Usually inlays and onlays require us taking a dental impression of your teeth and sending it to a lab to have your final restoration custom fabricated by highly skilled technicians. The CEREC machine allows the entire process to be done in-house and without us having to take a messy impression. Using CEREC, we will scan your mouth, design a restoration on a computer and finally have our in-house milling machine fabricate the restoration right in front of you.

If you would like to learn more about our same-day dentistry procedures, call us anytime at 901-377-3988 or request an appointment to come in a experience the benefits of receiving a dental restoration in one day.

CEREC Single Visit Veneers

The difference between CEREC veneers and conventional ones is that the CEREC machine is in office. Your teeth are prepped, scanned and created in office in just one visit. We do not require the messy molds that most people have a hard time sitting through. Most tradition veneers require not only uncomfortable impressions, but those typically then have to be sent to a lab, which creates waiting and future appointments. CEREC is a high-tech machine that works in conjunction with an in house milling machine to mill your porcelain veneers. The steps are quite simple and happen quickly. We scan the area in which the veneers are to be placed. This scan takes 3D digital pictures of the area and brings it in to the computer where the design phase begins. Your dentist will design a perfectly color-matched, size, and shape veneer that will feel and function like your natural teeth. Once the design is complete, the CEREC machine mills a block of porcelain and creates your new veneers. After this is completed, your veneers are ready to go and are bonded on to your prepped teeth. Within one appointment, you will walk out of our office with beautiful new veneers that look like your own natural teeth.

Are CEREC Restorations Expensive?

CEREC restorations are the quickest way today to receive a final dental restoration. Because of their "single-visit" nature, they are typically associated as a high-cost dental service. This is not always true and in many cases, a CEREC restoration costs about the same as a traditional restoration.

In any case, a same-day dental restoration is easily affordable at Implant and Family Dentistry. We are a proud CareCredit provider which means your dental restoration can be financed in most cases with no interest rate for a set financing term.
